ABOUT US

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College was established in January, 1960 at Patna City to spread Higher Education among the people of this locality.

The college is associated with the cherished and revered name of ‘Badshah Darvesh Shri Guru Gobind Singh Jee’ – who was born in this holy and historic city Patna Saheb on 22nd December, 1666. This light of patriotism and sacrifice, essentially eternal in character, will never die out, rather it will continue to shine over our murky national horizon and will root out the social and political evils for which this great Luminary stood and fought for the whole life. The plans for starting this institution were chalked out during the 42nd All India Sikh Educational Conference, which was organized to commemorate the 300th Birth – Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee in the first week of January, 1960. The conference was convened by Chief Khalsa Deewan, Amritsar and inaugurated by the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

A Board of trustees was formed with S. Surjit Singh Majithia, Deputy Defense Minister and S. Arjan Singh, Divisional Engineer, Eastern Railways as its Chairman and Secretary respectively to give concrete shape to the idea of and Ideal Institution. Dr. Dukhan Ram the then Vice Chancellor of Bihar University, took the initiative and granted affiliation to the college. The Classes were started from 16th August 1960 under the Principal ship of S. Gurubachan Singh Talib, Ex-Principal of Khalsa College, Mumbai. The College started functioning as an affiliated unit of Bihar University with 8 (eight) members of staff and 130 (One Hundred Thirty) students. Presently College is a constituent Unit Magadh University with Sikh Minority Character. The college imparts education to the both Boys and Girls up to Degree Pass and Honours level in Science. Arts and Commerce faculty.1 College caters the need of education and character building of urban as well as rural population of adjacent area. Being the need of hour, the college imparts education in Add-on Courses in Fashion Designing, Tourism & Traveling and Computer Maintenance and also Vocational Cources in B.B.A, B.C.A. etc. The College welcomes students of all communities and provides equal opportunities to both the sexes on merit.

SGGS College, despite the entire infrastructure which it has kept adding to its repertoire since its inception, has always sought to stay rooted to its indigenous origins, devoted to the cause of social and spiritual well-being of the community. SGGS College proudly claims and continually endeavours to create a congenial environment conducive to progressiveness. Thrust for knowledge, service to humanity, freedom of expression and respect for indigenous culture is the hallmark of this college. Our aim is to nurture a repertoire of students generation after generation with optimistic, resourceful, committed, analytical and scientific bent of mind and passionate future leaders who will sensible towards their responsibilities and human values and continue transforming this society and nation.
