The Maharshi Valmiki Sanskrit University, Kaithal (Kapisthalam) (MVSU), Haryana is a State University established in 2018 by the Government of Haryana. It is situated 130 km from the state capital Chandigarh, 164 km from the national capital, New Delhi, 30 kms from Pahowa and 45 kms from Kurukshetra. The university currently is operating from its two temporary campuses: (1) at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Govt. College, Kaithal and (2) Teek-10 km far from Kaithal on Kaithal Dhand road. The construction work of its own campus is in progress at Mundri village (Kaithal). This university is named after the Hindu sage “Maharshi Valmiki” who was the composer of the “Ramayana” and who is also known as the “Adi- Kavi” of the “Sanskrit” language. It is believed that Maharshi Valmiki Ashram was situated in Mundri village. The objective of the university is to revive “Sanskrit” and its wealthy wisdom through “Sanskrit” teaching and research, in addition, to bring back the glory of Vedas, Indic languages, Indian culture, history, and Indian philosophy on the platform of the modern world.
Presently, the university is working under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor- Prof. Ramesh Chandra Bhardwaj, who joined the university in April 2022. In all, there are 70 Gurukuls and Sanskrit colleges in Haryana which are essential for conservation and promotion of not only Sanskrit language but the Indian Traditional Learning System. Expressing his views, Vice Chancellor said that the University will keep on assisting, supporting and nurturing Gurukul/Sanskrit Mahavidhyalaya tradition of Indian traditional education system. The university is committed to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in an aesthetic manner with its emphasis on both modern as well as traditional, value added and skill-based curriculum. Besides, having under graduation and post- graduation in Sanskrit Vyakarana, Sahitya, Yoga, Veda, Darshana, Dharma Shastra, Jyotish and Hindu Adhyayam, the university has launched, diploma courses in Ayurveda, Karamkanda and Jyotish.
Vision (दृष्टि:)
The vision of this university is to preserve and protect Indian ancient heritage not only by teaching and research on ancient scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Philosophy, Puranas, Dharmashastra etc. but also promoting modern subjects like Yoga, Ayurveda, Computer, Life Management skills, Journalism etc. The aim of the University is also to provide value-based education to transform the learners in to responsible citizens and make India best place to live like Vedic times so as to lead the world by producing graduates equipped with ethical values and samskaras besides Indian Traditional knowledge.
