Mount Tiyi College is the only government higher learning institution in Wokha district of Nagaland. The college was established on 16 August 1974. It owes its birth to the farsightedness of the then leading personalities from the district who had taken this venture with sacrifice to provide higher education for the upcoming generation of the Lothas.
The college is named after the legendary mountain ‘Tiyi’, the highest mountain peak in the district and as envisioned by the founders, that this institution should strive to reach the peak of excellence in education.Mount Tiyi College was initially an affiliated college of North Eastern Hill University but now it is under Nagaland University.
The college is registered under Section 12B and 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college was upgraded to Degree level in 1979 and taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st April 1987. The college with its motto ‘Surge Et Luce’ or ‘Rise and Shine’ endeavours to serve, inspire and empower the young minds.
In accordance with its motto, the college has produced many responsible and useful citizens and continues to do so; contributing their services to the state and the society in different capacities.The college is a co-educational institution and offers Degree level courses in Arts. Presently, it also runs Higher Secondary Classes.
