Mizoram Polytechnic, Lunglei was established in the year 1981, at a time when technically trained manpower was the crucial need of the hour in the state.
Only one diploma programme was introduced then, namely, Civil Engineering.
Over the years, three more diploma programmes, namely those in Electrical, Mechanical and Computer Science and Engineering, were introduced in keeping with the changing needs of industry and the community.
The polytechnic is one of the 15 polytechnics selected for institutional development under the Tech. Ed. III Phase of the World Bank Assisted Project. As of today, the polytechnic offers 3-year full-time programmes in the following areas :
1. Civil Engineering.
2. Electrical Engineering.
3. Mechanical Engineering.
4. Computer Science and Engineering.
The polytechnic is a co-educational institute and has an excellent track record in technical education. It has well-qualified and experienced faculty who are constantly in quest of new ideas and innovations to enhance the performance of the students and the reputation of the institution. The polytechnic has developed good infrastructure and facilities over the last two decades and continuously strives to keep abreast of the latest technological developments.
