History of the College

Nalanda has ever been an excellent place for education. The ancient ‘Nalanda university’ has been historically renowned for its teaching and learning. Especially, Pawapuri, about ten kilometres far from Nalanda, is known as the ‘NIRWAN BHOOMI’ (land of salvation) of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara’ of Jainism.

Pawapuri in a place of historical, religious and cultural importance’s. It is situated at Patna-Ranchi Highway (NH-20) about ten kilometres away from the district headquarters ‘Bihar Sharif’.

Vardhman Mahavir College popularly known as V.M.College was founded in Pawapuri in 1979 by a renowned business man and educationist late ‘Ram Sanehi Babu’ and then Deputy Chief Minister of West Bengal ‘ Vijay Singh Nahar’ . Besides, the villagers of Pawa, Puri and adjacent villages also co-operated their best in establishment of this college.

V.M. College has been recognized by UGC, New Delhi, Under 2(f) and 12 (B) of U.G.C. Act 1956. It is affiliated to Patliputra University, Patna and permanently approved, by the Government of Bihar.

Basically, the college is located in a rural area where in thousands of the school-passed students were declined of higher education due to lack of a degree college. The college initiated with tens and now thousands of girls’ and boys’ students’ study in this college and brightening their careers. Mr S.C. Bothara, the President Dr Sadhu Sharan Singh the Secretary of the Governing Body are very interested in establishing the college as one to the best colleges of the University.

Prof. Chandra Bhushan Prasad Singh was appointed Principal in September 2016. As soon as he took over the change, he prepared a road map of all-round development of the college. The G.B. also co-operated him fully to make his plans fruitful.

The principal informed several committees and authorised them to work with a free-hand. It would mot be an exaggeration of fact that the college has achieved an all-round remarkable development during the last five years. At first, a 7 high boundary wall was erected from all the sides in order to make the campus sage and secure.

Earlier, there was only on double-storey building with 12550 sq. feet built up area in which all the academic and administrative acts been taking place.

At present we have separate academic, administrative and miscellaneous functioning buildings. Parks, gardens, biological aquarium, Green Hose, Health Centre, Canteen, Parking Cycle stand, rain water harvesting pits etc. are other features that make this college a fast-growing college of the university.

The college as made a plan to build separate hosted=ls for boys and girls’ students and staff quarters in future.
