Government Johnson College

INTRODUCTION

The Govt. of Mizoram, as a measure to endure meaning development, maintenance of academic excellence and improve standard in Higher Education, implemented the policy of amalgamation of private colleges within the State Capital in the year 2002. Among the four amalgamated private colleges, the College presently known as Govt. Johnson College is an amalgamated Institution of two private Colleges viz.: (a) Bungkawn College, established in 1992 and (b) Johnson College, established in 1993. On approval of both the communities concerned, Bungkawn College and Johnson College were amalgamated on the 24th of Oct, 2002. The resulting amalgamated Institution then was granted a Government Aided-Deficit status on the 1st of November, 2002 by the State Government. The Institution, however, retains the name ‘Johnson’ to commemorate the financial aids that has been granted by the Johnson family.

Permanent Affiliation:

 On the 1st of July, 2006, the Mizoram University granted permanent affiliation to Johnson College. (Vide No: MZU/CDC/32/2006 of 10th November, 2006).

Inclusion under 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act: On the 1st of July, 2006 Johnson College was registered under 2(f) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. (Vide No.F. 8-410/2005 (CPP-I) of 17th November, 2006.

Vision

To equip the students with intellectual competence and competitive edge for the job market, emphasis is laid on moral uprightness, character formation and social commitment ‘to serve’ within the plurality of religions and cultures of the nation.

Mission

 (i)  The institution seeks to be in the vanguard of Higher Education for all sections of the society.

(ii)    To reach out especially to those who are socially, economically and educationally disadvantaged.

(iii)    To equip the students to possess overall development in the field of education, co-curricular and extension activities.
