Despite being extremely important from administrative and strategic point of view, Katihar district has been neglected due to connecting the international borders of India, Bangladesh and Nepal and the northern states with the entirety of the nation. Indeed… This 'dirty area' of Katihar, located at the mouth of Kosi, Mahananda and Ganga, presents a questioning image today despite giving birth to sons like Bhudan pioneer late Vaidyanath Chaudhary, novelist late Phanishwar Nath 'Renu' and immortal martyr student Dhruv Kundu.In this 'dirty area', the holy form of knowledge and learning, born from the great imagination of some wise men, appeared in the form of 'D.S. College, Katihar' in August 1953. This college was fortunate that it got the accumulated goodwill of generous people like late Rambabu Singh and late Kalicharan Yadav.Under the leadership of Late Brahmadev Na Sinha, D.S. College started climbing the ladder of success at a rapid pace. In a short span of time, the achievements of this college became a matter of pride for the intelligent teachers and students desirous of learning. This college, which has travelled a long journey of Bihar University, Bhagalpur University and Lalit Na Mithila University, is today recognized as a leading unit of Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University. The students of this college made their mark at the provincial and national level in various universities, in various faculties and subjects. Many teachers and students of this college got international fame.IGNOU's study centre is running successfully in the college. BCA and BBA courses have been started with a rich computer lab from the session 2007 and we are moving ahead in the direction of providing ample opportunities to students interested in the field of Information Technology and Management. Many students have been selected by global companies in the five-day Job Fair held in the college. Since then, Campus Selection and Counseling are being conducted continuously. Approval for the study of Seed Technology, Industrial Microbiology and Seed Technology in the Science Faculty has been received from UGC. Efforts are on to start them as soon as possible. Many Career Oriented Courses have also been proposed by the Commerce and Arts faculties. Under the 11th plan of UGC, arrangements have been made for the study of Internet Resource Centre and E-medial Course. Come, let us all collectively pledge to be completely devoted to our duties and responsibilities that we will always keep this matchless flow of the Ganga of knowledge intact.
