Eligibility Criteria for IES Exam
Nationality
According to the IES eligibility, the nationality of a candidate to appear in the examination must be either:
1. A citizen of India or
2. A subject of Nepal or A subject of Bhutan or
3. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
4. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
5. Certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
In order to qualify for all the eligibility standards candidates must fill the basic educational qualification required for the exam.
1. Candidates must have an engineering degree from any recognized university that is incorporated by the Central Government, State Government, or UGC Act.
2. Candidates must have passed sections A and B of the Institution examination conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India).
3. Candidates must have an engineering degree or diploma course from a foreign university and those degrees are recognized by the Government of India.
4. Candidates who have qualified Graduate Membership exam of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).
5. Candidate Parts II and III or Section A and B of the Associate Membership Examination conducted by the Aeronautical Society of India.
6. Candidates must have passed the Graduate Membership Exam of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November 1959.
Age Limit
The Union Public Service Commission mentions the IES 2023 age limit in the official UPSC ESE 2023 notification. As per the IES 2023 age limit, candidates between 21 to 30 years, are eligible to appear for the UPSC Engineering Services Exam 2023. On the other hand, applicants belonging to the reserved category are eligible for IES age relaxation as per the rules of the Commission.

Stage-I: Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination (Objective Type Papers) for the selection of candidates for the Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination;
Stage-II: Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination (Conventional Type Papers) and
Stage-III: Personality Test
