Gymnastics is a sport, the benefits of gymnastics include our physical growth, balance, flexibility, agility and mental focus. This is a fine art. It is widely practiced in many parts of the world. Gymnastics is an ancient sport. Gymnastics exercises were practiced in China before 2600 BC. But its real development started in Greece and Rome.
History of Gymnastics
The word 'gymnastics' is derived from the Greek word 'gymnos' which means 'naked body'. The exercises which are done by the naked body are called gymnastics. These exercises were done to keep the body healthy. Artistic Gymnastics has been part of the Olympics since the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
Initially, only men took part in this sport, but in the Amsterdam 1928 Games, women's events were included. Male gymnasts compete for six medals floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. While women compete in four medal events, vault, unevenbar, beam and floor. Men and women take part in individual as well as team events.
Introduction to Gymnastics
In the sport of player gymnastics, the number of players in each team is eight. All players on the team participate in all drills. The team championship depends on the performance of the best eight to six players.
Marks in Gymnastics
Each exercise is given a score from 0 to 10. In this one number is divided into 10 parts. If there is a panel of three judges in the game, then only the scores of all three are taken for the average. In case of a panel of five judges, the average of the middle three marks is taken by adding the highest and lowest marks.
Gymnastics Rules
1. The number of players in gymnastics is seven, the seventh player can change his place.
2. The group code or dress code of the player participating in gymnastics is the same.
3. In this game, the player is given 2.5 minutes to warm up.
4. Athletes may use a bandaged or gripped bar during a gymnastics competition.
5. In this game, the length and width of the field can be 60 X 30.
6. Gymnastics is divided into men's and women's gymnastics. Men compete in six events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
7. Women compete on four: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Rules of Artistic Gymnastics for Women
Floor Exercise
Within the provided 90 seconds, each participant displays their performance, basically a mixture of gymnastics and dance. The athlete flips turn and execute leaps and spins within the given time utilizing the fixed space.
Uneven Bars
A pair of bars is the equipment for this event. Transferring most of the stress to the upper body, the participant moves back and forth to the bars, performing various swings and body flips six feet above the ground.
Vault
Starting from a 25-meter run, athletes launch by pushing their hand on the springboard and using the short air time to make twists and somersaults.
Balance Beam
This is a showcase of sheer balance. Gymnasts try to precisely accomplish numerous spins and postures without losing balance and falling from the beam.
Rules of Artistic Gymnastics for Men
Pommel Horse
Super strong arms and a flexible lower body are the keys. Clutching to the handles on the top of the prop, participants executed a combination of swings and lifts without landing on their feet.
Parallel bars
There will be two bars arranged side-by-side 2 meters high from the ground. The task is to hold onto these bars and perform stunts that will earn you points.
Horizontal bars
Similar to the parallel bar event, but with one long bar instead of two. Athletes could launch themselves over the bar using the swing momentum and execute moves but have to make sure that they shouldn’t lose their grip once they fall back.
Gymnastics Rings
A pair of rings 50 cm apart and 2.8 meters high from the ground. Holding on to these rings, they can swing and carry out flips or twists or hold postures during the span of the performance.
