The history of baseball can be traced back to a young man named Abner Doubleday, who invented the game during the summer of 1839 in Cooperstown, New York. Doubleday would eventually become a Civil War hero, and baseball would gradually become America’s national pastime.

It’s a nice story, but completely untrue. In 1839, Doubleday was studying at West Point. In fact, throughout his life, never once did he claim to have any sort of relationship with the sport. This popular legend actually derives from the 20th century, when a special commission created by a sporting goods business used unreliable, second-hand evidence to develop the Doubleday myth. When the National Baseball Hall of Fame was established in Cooperstown during the 1930s, league officials and local businessmen would work to perpetuate this nice little fable.

Baseball, which was started in the year 1846, is a gift of England. But later it started being played in North America after making some changes and then it became the national game of the United States. Baseball is played between 2 teams, so baseball must have two teams and 18 players.

The Amateur Baseball Federation of India has established India in December 1982.

This Amateur Federation is affiliated with the Baseball Federation of Asia and the International Baseball Federation.

The Government of India recognized it in 1991.

The Indian team won the bronze medal in the 1995 Asia Cup Baseball Championship in the Philippines.

Teams of children in the age group of 11 years, 15 years, and 17 years also participated in it.

Baseball was added as the school's national game in 1999. Due to this, it got recognition in schools also.

In 2002, it got its place from the Indian Olympic Association. SAI started a certificate course in baseball in 2003.

International Baseball Federation

The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) is the former worldwide governing body recognized by the International Olympic Committee as overseeing, deciding, and executing the policy of the sport of baseball.

Amateur Baseball Federation of India

The Federation was established in December 1983 with an object to promote this game. On 11th December 1983 some Baseball lovers from Delhi, Manjpur, Haryana, Gujarat, M.P and West Bengal met at Rohtak (Haryana) and agreed to form a baseball federation to promote baseball games throughout the country.

The Baseball Leaders also agreed that the Federation should become a member of the Asian baseball Federation and the International Baseball Association. Secretary and given the responsibility to approach Asian and International Baseball Authority for membership. 1984 Officially form ABFI along with Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab Baseball Association.

Sports Authority of India (SAI)

Sports Authority of India (SAI) was set up in 1984 to carry forward the legacy of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982 under the Department of Sports. SAl has been entrusted with the twin objectives of promoting sports and achieving sporting excellence at the national and international levels.

SAI has played a significant role in shaping India’s sports development by providing training to elite athletes and at the same time operating a number of schemes for the identification and development of young talent.

SAI was set up as a Society registered of Societies Act, 1860 in pursuance of the Resolution No. 1-1/83/SAI dated 25th January 1984 of the Department of Sports, Govt. of India. SAI is also entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining and utilizing, on the behalf of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
