UGC NET 2025
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for eligibility for Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions. The primary purpose is to set a minimum standard for teaching and research in higher education institutions in India. The exam is held twice a year, and the dates for the December 2025 cycle have been announced.
Eligibility Criteria
· Educational qualification: A Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks for General/EWS candidates and 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Transgender candidates. Those in their final year can also apply provisionally.
· Age limit:
o Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.
o JRF: Maximum 30 years as of the first day of the month the exam is announced, with age relaxation for reserved categories.

Exam pattern
The exam consists of two papers, both with objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs), conducted in a single three-hour session.
· Paper 1:
o Questions: 50
o Marks: 100
o Topics: Teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, general awareness, and divergent thinking.
· Paper 2:
o Questions: 100
o Marks: 200
o Subject: Based on the candidate's chosen subject.
· Marking scheme: Two marks are awarded for each correct answer. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
