The Rajasthan government has announced a major reform in the school examination system, offering students more flexibility, reduced pressure, and improved chances of achieving better scores.
Rajasthan's School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister, Madan Dilawar, has confirmed that RBSE, Ajmer, will conduct two board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 starting from the 2026-27 academic session. The announcement was made during a public event in Ganesh Nagar, Kota.
Under the new system, all students must appear for the first main board examination, scheduled for February – March. A second opportunity exam, to be held in May-June, will allow students to improve their performance.Both examinations will be based on the complete syllabus, with no changes in study patterns or exam planning. Students who qualify for the first exam may reappear in up to three subjects during the second attempt to improve their marks.
Additionally, students who miss the main exam may appear for the second exam if they submit a valid medical certificate or receive approval from the district education officer (secondary).
Students receiving a supplementary result will also be allowed to take the second exam in up to three subjects, including the supplementary ones. The examination fee will remain unchanged for both attempts.
To ensure fairness, RBSE will adopt a "best of two attempts" policy, meaning the higher score from the two exams will be considered for the final result.
Minister Dilawar stated that the dual-exam system aims to reduce exam stress, offer students greater flexibility, and align the state's examination process with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes student-friendly assessment models.
In line with RBSE's move, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also announced that Class 10 board exam will be conducted twice a year.
CBSE students can appear in the second exam to improve scores in up to three subjects, while those placed in the compartment category will get another opportunity to enhance their results during the second exam window.
The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) is set to release the 2026 Class 10 and 12 board exam datesheet soon, enabling students and schools to plan well in advance for the dual-exam format.
Rajasthan's decision to introduce biannual board exams marks a significant shift toward a more student-centric evaluation system.
With greater flexibility, reduced pressure, and opportunities for improvement, the move is expected to benefit lakhs of students while bringing the state's assessment practices closer to national standards.
