Khelo India Scholarship Scheme 2024 Registration Begins

Khelo India Programme is a national yojana/scheme for the development of sports in India. It was launched in the year 2018 by the then Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in Delhi. This program has been launched to improve the sports culture in India. For the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024, the Sports Authority of India has announced an Out-of-Pocket Allowance of ₹ 7,71,30,000 for 2571 Khelo India Athletes. The sum made available is a component of the Khelo India Scholarship Programme.

Objectives of Khelo India Scholarship Scheme

The Khelo India Scholarship Scheme aims to encourage more people to participate in sports so that athletes can achieve their best. Sports are important for the growth of our country. In recent years, India has been improving in sports. It’s important to show this progress to the world. The Khelo India scheme wants to build a strong base for all sports in India and make India a top sporting nation. It aims to bring back the love for sports from the grassroots level.

Benefits of Khelo India Scholarship Scheme

1. Approximately 3000 athletes are chosen for the Khelo India program, which is designed for their long-term development.

2. Each athlete receives a yearly stipend of Rs 1,20,000 for personal expenses.

3. Additionally, athletes receive Rs. 5 Lakh for their preparation and participation in competitions.

4. The total cash disbursed to athletes for the quarters of 2023–24 amounts to ₹ 30,83,30,000.

5. This includes the fourth quarter of 2023–24, covering January to March 2024.

6. The Khelo India program grants scholarships to more than 3000 talented athletes, providing them with Rs. 6.28 lakhs annually.

7. This scholarship covers various necessities such as training, coaching, nutrition, medical insurance, and kits, ensuring athletes’ holistic support.

Eligibility Criteria For Khelo India Scholarship Scheme

1. Applicant must be a citizen of India.

2. The scholarship is available for residential athletes who undergo training at the Khelo India Academy.

3. The scheme encompasses a total of 2,189 athletes participating in 21 different disciplines, which also includes para-athletes.

4. The youth in the age group of 15-29 years comprise 27.5% of the population.
