The Dental Council of India (DCI) is the regulatory authority for dental education and practice in India. It was constituted in 1948 under the Dentists Act 1948. The DCI is headquartered in New Delhi and has regional offices throughout India. DCI is financed by a grant from the Govt. of India under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Department of Health).

The main objectives of this Indian dental body are to maintain high standards of dental education and practice in India, protect public health by ensuring that only qualified dentists practice, and regulate the dental profession to ensure the health and welfare of the public. Various State Governments, Universities, Dental Colleges, Central Government, etc. are represented by the General Body of the Dental Council of India.

1. The Dental Council of India has various objectives some of which are the maintenance of uniform standards of dental education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

2. It's also prescribing the standard curricula for the training of dentists, dental mechanics and dental hygienists, envisaging the inspection of the dental colleges to start functioning or introducing new courses etc.

3. It also aims at setting the minimum standards of examinations and other requirements for securing qualifications.

4. It is also responsible for supervising all dental institutions to ensure that they are functioning under the prescribed standards.

Dental Entrance Exams

Dental exams in India are some of the most challenging parts of going after a dental career. Here is the list of top dental exams in India :

NEET-UG - The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers NEET, a national entrance exam for BDS admissions. Students must pass the paper-and-pencil version of NEET to be admitted to BDS programs.

NEET-MDS - NEET MDS will be administered by the National Board of Examination (NBE) to offer qualified applicants admission. Students must take the entrance exam if they meet the eligibility requirements. The candidates' merits will be taken into consideration while allocating seats. To qualify for NEET MDS, students must have earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree.

AIIMS-PG - The AIIMS PG entrance exam is administered online for admission to MDS courses. In addition, students must hold a BDS degree from a university approved by the Indian Dental Council. AIIMS PG admissions will be granted based on performance in the admission exam.

JIPMER PG - JIPMER PG exam to be considered for admission to the institute's MDS programs. The admission exam will be conducted using a computer. The applicants will also need to satisfy the necessary eligibility requirements in addition to obtaining a passing score on the admission exam.
