Rashtriya Military schools were established as King George’s Royal Indian Military schools to take care of the education of the sons of defence personnel. In 1952, the schools were reorganized on Public School lines and admissions were made open to the sons of Defense Service Officers and civilians.
In 1954, the school became a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member to date. On 25th Jun 2007, the schools got their present name “Rashtriya Military School”. The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland.

The Campus of Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
1. Bengaluru Military School: The campus is spread over 68 acres of land. The school has modern infrastructure and quality facilities. The school has a state-of-the-art sports complex including an Olympic size swimming pool.
2. Belgaum Military School: The campus is spread over 64.13 acres of land. The campus has state-of-the-art infrastructure and includes a library, academic blocks, computer laboratories, an art gallery and an all-religion worship place called Sarva Dharma Sthal.
3. Chail Military School: The school facilitates updated infrastructure, alongside state-of-the-art training facilities. It is the first and the oldest establishment of all the RMS institutions.
4. Dholpur Military School: The campus has a beautiful and updated infrastructure, with a touch of royal beauty in it. The campus combines the two well and is well in touch with the latest technologies.
5. Ajmer Military School: The campus is spread over 92 acres of land and keeps in touch with the rich heritage, along with having one of the best modern infrastructures in the country. Over the past years, the existing old buildings and structures have been modified and improved to match the best available.
Eligibility Criteria for RMS Admissions
1. Class 6 - Boys and girls aged between 10-12 years as of 31 March 2024 (born between 01 April 2012 to 31 March 2014, both days inclusive)
2. Class 9 - Both boys and girls aged between 13-15 years as of 31 March 2024 (born between 01 April 2009 to 31 March 2011, both days inclusive)
3. For Class 6 - The student must have passed Class 5 or must be studying in Class 5 and pass it before the date of RMS admission.
4. For Class 9 - For admission in Class 9, the student should have passed Class 8 from a government-recognized school, before the date of Rashtriya Military School admission.
Admission Process 2024
Rashtriya Military Schools of India conducts RMS admissions at all its schools through the CET exam. The RMS admission applications are available from 2nd week of September to October every year. Registration for the 9th-class girl cadets opens in November. RMS Common Entrance Test is conducted for admission to classes 6 and 9. RMS admissions in class 11 are provided based on the class 10th results.
1. Written Test: An OMR-based written exam is conducted for classes 6 and 9. The medium of the paper is bilingual (Hindi and English) for Class 6 and only English for Class 9.
2. Interview: Students who qualify for the exam will be called for an interview at RMS. The marks of the interview will be added to the written test score to prepare a merit list.
3. Result & Medical Test: Merit list of successful candidates and the school allotment will be announced. All the students will go through a medical fitness test and students found medically unfit will not be admitted.

1. Rashtriya Military School employs a unique selection process, admitting one or two individuals from each state every six months, drawing top talents.
2. Sainik Schools, in contrast, welcome both boys and girls, with 67% of seats reserved for boys from the state where the school is located.
3. Additionally, Sainik Schools allocate 25% of seats for defence personnel and veterans, with specific quotas of 15%, 7.5%, and 27% for SCs, STs, and OBCs (Non-creamy layer) respectively.
4. Sainik Schools typically charge around Rs 140,000 in annual fees, whereas Rashtriya Military School charges Rs 62,400.
