The ‘Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)’ is being implemented to encourage technical and post-graduate education for the widows and wards of the deceased/ex-service personnel of Armed Forces.
The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme (PMSS), run by the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. PM scholarship scheme was initiated in the year 2006-07 by Government of India.
The scheme is funded out of the National Defence Fund administered by the Prime Minister’s Office. Scholarships are available for education at various technical institutions (medical, dental, veterinary, engineering, MBA, MCA and other equivalent technical institutions having AICTE/UGC approval).
PM Scholarship is paid out of the National Defence Fund and conducted by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Government of India. The scholarship is admissible for only two children of the ESM / Ex-Coast Guard. The ambit of the Scholarship Scheme is extended to the wards of State Police officials who are/were martyred during terror/Naxal attacks. The quota of new scholarships for wards of state police officials will be 500 in a year.

How avale this program?
1. The scheme is only open for widows and unmarried wards of ESM/widow.
2. However, marriage/re-marriage at a subsequent date would not disqualify the awardees.
3. Wards of Ex-servicemen and their widows (below officer rank)
4. Wards of widows of Ex-servicemen died in harness due to causes attributed to military service
5. Widows of Ex-servicemen died in harness
6. The candidate irrespective of his marital status is eligible for PMSS. However, an earning / serving candidate is not eligible.
7. Wards of State Police officials who are/were martyred during terror/Naxal attacks (500 scholarships).
Eligibility Criteria for Prime Minister's Scholarship
1. The student must have scored 60% and above in Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) i.e 10+2 / Diploma / Graduation.
2. Students pursuing selected professional and technical undergraduate courses.
3. The candidate should be pursuing professional courses. (Not applicable for lateral entry and integrated courses).
4. For renewal in subsequent years, the Candidates need to obtain at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination.
Not Eligible for PM Scholarship Scheme
1. Students studying abroad are not eligible for PM Scholarship Scheme.
2. Students receiving a stipend for professional degree courses.
3. Students pursuing studies through Distance Learning courses are not eligible.
4. Master Degree Courses are not eligible for PMSS except MBA, MCA.
5. Students of the second year of graduation are not eligible.
6. Wards of Civilians including Para-Military Personnel are NOT ELIGIBLE.
Eligible Courses for Prime Minister's Scholarship
First Professional Degree Courses like BE, B.Tech, BDS, MBBS, B.Ed, B.B.A, BCA, B.Pharma, etc. duly recognized by the respective Government Regulatory Bodies, such as All India Council for Technical Education, Medical Council of India, UGC, etc.
Application Process
1. Visit the official website of NSP @ https://scholarships.gov.in/
2. Click on the “New Registration” link.
3. Read the application guidelines carefully and click on continue to proceed.
4. Fill in all required details and click on "Register".
5. After getting registered the user id and password will be generated on your mobile number.
Documents Required
1. The original ink signed Bonafide Certificate signed by Principal/Dean/ Registrar of the Institute / College as per Annexure-1 to be scanned and uploaded.
2. Annexure-2 (Instructions and Certificate / Undertaking from Student / ESM)
3. Download the format of certificate related to linking of Aadhaar Number and upload the same after duly signed by Branch Manager (SBI / PNB only) as per Annexure-3.
4. Scan and upload original mark sheets of both semesters / academic year issued by the University.
5. Computer-generated mark sheets are not to be uploaded. Annexure-4 (Not applicable to all Students).
6. A certificate signed by the University to be uploaded by those students whose mark sheets are issued by the University on completion of the entire course.
7. Scan and upload the first page of the Bank Pass Book or cancelled cheque leaf printed with Name and Account No of students duly linked with his / her Aadhaar No.
8. Scan and upload your (student’s) Aadhaar Card showing your name and address etc.
PM Scholarship Reward
PM scholarship will be given for a period of one to five years. The payment of the scholarship will be granted after the successful completion of each academic year, as per the percentages mentioned in the academic requirement.
1. PM Scholarship will be given to a total of 5500 students (2750 for girls and 2750 for boys) across India, the Amount of the scholarships are as follows.
2. PM scholarship amount has been increased from Rs. 2000 per month to Rs. 2500 per month for boys and from Rs. 2250 per month to Rs. 3000 per month for girls in May 2019.
3. The first payment will be paid automatically just after the selection in the merit list of 5500 candidates.
4. The scholarship will be remitted in Bank Account Number (PNB / SBI only) which should be linked to the Aadhaar Number of the selected students.
