PMT stands for Pre Medical Test. It is a competitive examination in India that is conducted at the state level and national level for admission to undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). The exam is typically conducted by state governments or by national-level agencies such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or the National Testing Agency (NTA).
All India Pre Medical Test / AIPMT or PMT offered 15% of the total seats to the students in all medical and dental colleges/ institutes, run by the State Government, Union of India, Municipal or other Local Authorities in India (exceptions – Andhra Pradesh, J&K and Telangana). In February, AIPMT (now NEET) notification will be released. Every year lakhs of students are attempting this exam, but very few candidates are selected. It is a highly competitive exam.
Eligibility Criteria for PMT
1. Candidates should have completed their 10+2 from any recognized university.
2. Candidates appearing for the graduation level exam and qualifying for the exam are also eligible to apply for NEET.
3. Aspirants appearing at the graduation level and completed a B.Sc degree are also eligible to apply for NEET.
4. Students who are appearing in the final year of graduation can also apply for this exam.
5. Applicants should be studying Physics, Chemistry / Biotechnology, Biology and English as mandatory subjects in their qualifying examination.
6. Candidates must meet the age requirement for the PMT exam. The age limit is usually 17 to 25 years, although some organizations may have different age limits.
PMT exam pattern
1. The exam is held physically at designated locations. The entire exam lasts for three hours.
2. The PMT syllabus includes science courses such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology, with 45 questions each.
3. There are a total of 180 questions which are objective-type questions.
4. The question paper is written in Hindi and English.
5. Moreover, each correct response gets four marks, while each incorrect answer results in a mark deduction.
