He instructed YMCA athletes to prepare for this indoor sport to keep fit during the cold winter months. Naismith then introduced the game, which consisted of two peach baskets and a soccer ball with 13 rules.
The first game of basketball was played between 9-9 players according to Naismith's rules, but over the years its rules have been changed and improved to present what we know today as Modern-Day Basketball. know. Not only this, but the benefits of playing basketball also make it special.
Basketball Rules
Basketball is a team sport played between two sides. The main objective in the basketball game is to put the ball in the basket. During this, the opposition team has to stop him from doing so.
The basketball match is started by the referee in the center of the court. During this, the ball is tossed up in the air and one player from each team competes for possession of it. The team that takes possession of the basketball ball is called the offensive team, while the team that prevents the ball from basking is called the defensive team.
Basketball Court Dimensions and Markings
To understand modern basketball, it is very important to know about the dimensions or shape of the basketball court.
As per FIBA (International Basketball Federation) guidelines, the basketball court should be in a rectangular playing area, 28 meters in length and 15 meters in width. FIBA guidelines are followed in all international competitions including the Olympics.
The line that determines the length of the court is called the sideline and the line that determines the width of the court is called the end line or baseline. According to the rules and principles of basketball, a court is divided into two equal halves, drawn parallel to a mid-line or end line in the middle of a court.
Two circular baskets or hoops are placed 3.05 m (10 ft) above the court at the midpoints of the two end lines or baselines and the hoops are placed 1.2 m from the end line. The rim of the basket is 46 cm in diameter and is accompanied by an exposed basketball net.
A three-pointed half-circle is drawn at a distance of 6.75 m from the center of the basket or hoops. Inside this three-pointed circle, a rectangular area (5.8m x 4.9m) is created that begins at the baseline or end line, called the key area or restricted area.
The outside edge of the restricted area parallel to the line at the end of the court is called the free-throw line. A 3.6 m diameter semi-circle is drawn on the outside of the free-throw line, which is called the free-throw circle.
Basketball Scoring System
Three-Point Shot - Two points are awarded to the team for baskets made from outside the three-point circle after the start of the game, while three straight points are awarded for baskets made from outside the three-point circle.
Two-Point Shot - A field goal that is scored from inside the three-point circle in the opposing half. These are called two-pointers.
One Point Shot - Free throws are awarded to the other team when any team fouls inside the three-point circle, for which the player who wins the foul is outside the free-throw line, but from inside the free-throw circle. does. 1 point is awarded for each successful free throw.
A foul is committed with the intention of snatching the ball or by wrongfully pushing the body of a player. The player of the offensive team cannot remain in the restricted area for more than three seconds.
How many players in Basketball Team
A traditional basketball team consists of 12 players, with five basketball players on the court at any one time. The five players are placed in the following places:
Point Guard - Usually the player with the best ball-handling skills and vision on the team plays as a point guard. Whose roles are both offensive and defensive in order to create opportunities for teammates.
