The Division of Interventional Radiology offers a full spectrum of vascular and nonvascular procedures, including diagnostic angiography, percutaneous angioplasty and stenting, embolization therapy, percutaneous tumor ablative therapies, thrombolysis, gastrointestinal/biliary interventions, genitourinary interventions, transplant interventions, dialysis fistula/graft evaluation and treatment, drainage and/or sclerosis, venous ablation and vascular access.
The program is based in the academic Department of Radiology at the Universities and are organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Postgraduate Medical Education Departments. Funding is provided by Medical Imaging Consultants. Clinical aspects of the program will occur mainly at the University and Hospitals.
Eligibility for Fellowship in Interventional Radiology
The post provides an opportunity for Years 4, 5, or 6 of radiological training and applicants may be considered who have obtained a CCT in radiology. Previous experience in Interventional Radiology within the first five years of training would be an advantage.
Overview of Fellowship Educational Program
The fellow is expected to attend weekly clinical grand rounds, bi-weekly interventional rounds, departmental and specialized journal clubs, Fellows are expected to attend one National/International specialist intervention meeting during the year.
Teaching responsibilities will be to residents and technical staff at clinical meetings, lectures and in-service teaching. This may include supervision of residents for simple interventional procedures.
The fellow will be involved in both the clinical and basic science research programs of the department. Dedicated time, case material, library, office space, literature and secretarial support will be made available.
During the year the IR Fellow is expected to have had significant experience of peripheral Vascular/Renal CTA/MRA studies.
Admission Criteria
1. Postgraduate medical qualification in Radiology e.g. FRCR, MMed or equivalent.
2. 5 years radiology residency training or equivalent at expected start date of fellowship (eg. for 3-year training programs, a further 2-year postgraduate experience required).
3. Proven competency in English per Singapore Medical Council’s requirements for clinical fellowship.
The selection of interventional radiology fellows will be prioritized based on the following:
1. Regions with little interventional radiology expertise (priority for ASEAN and countries with MoU for training).
2. candidates in a position to develop public service and train the next generation of interventional radiologists over time.
3. One-year fellowship applicants with IR publications in peer-reviewed journals preferred for sponsored positions.

3. Leading role in the presentation of cases at clinical-radiological conferences (MDTs).
4. Active role in interventional radiology research.
5. All clinical activities will be performed under the supervision of VIR consultants, initially as assistants and subsequently as primary operators.
