Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery course is an undergraduate 5.5 years including Internships degree program designed in such a way that it makes students familiar with the integrated concept of Modern Medical Science and Traditional Medicines, i.e. it is focussed on Ayurveda. Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine and traces its roots to Vedic times. BAMS course provides complete knowledge about 'Ashtanga Ayurveda' along with scientific advances in modern medicine along with extensive practical training.
It is based on the curative properties of herbs and its medicines are known for the natural elements that they contain. Ayurveda medicine system not only cures and prevents an ailment but also reduces the frequency with which diseases enter the human body. It utilizes the self-healing system of the body. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is the responsible body for admission to Ayurveda education at undergraduate as well as the postgraduate level and for practice Ayurvedic medicine in India.
Eligibility
Candidates need to have a minimum of 50%-60% in their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board. The minimum required score in the 10+2 may vary according to the different institutions present in India.
Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the main subjects in the 12th board examinations.
The upper age limit for the candidates appearing for the NEET exam from the general category is 20 years. While a relaxation of 4 years is given to the reserved categories.

Ayurvedic is overlapping with the other medical system not only in India but also in the world. In many cases, the people have taken the experience for the trustfulness of the Ayurvedic system and medicines treating for chronic and non-healable diseases. The person with a BAMS degree can get employment in private as well as government Ayurvedic hospitals as doctor, pharmacist and manager, etc.
The candies having a Bachelor in Ayurvedic medicine and surgery degree are eligible to be called and the doctor. And can do their private practice. Candidates with BAMS degrees can also open their own retail shop of Ayurvedic medicine. Graduates can find a job in both government and private clinics, as Ayurveda Specialists, Ayurveda drug specialists, and may even start their private practice.
